I’m playing Beyond Galaxyland, and I feel like it illustrates the boundaries of “all art is political.” Sure, this dev’s probably a RETVRN trad, and a certain tolerance for trad characters is required to put up with the game’s extended cast. But I don’t feel like the game itself is a propaganda piece so far. It’s just supposed to be an interesting story, and it allows sympathy for characters who aren’t trads.

Oops!

I forgot to mention that Young Sherlock went to Constantinople. Naturally, I was legally mandated to recite all the words.

So sorry, I should've posted this when we finished watching the first season.

Going to try to post a little more often, as proof of life as much as anything. ^^;;

Not too much April Fools stuff today, though I'm not surprised. Only a couple of my mobile games did anything, and only a couple of discords, etc.

For the record, the Blue Estailev won the build poll from back in February. Actually, it and the Oberon were tied so I just flipped a coin. I have the Estailev all de-bagged/runner-checked and waiting, but I probably won't get to it til the weekend. I did end up building the NG X-Divider that I'd found and detailed it up more than intended... Looks pretty good, just needs to go on a shelf.

Working on some other things... April is busy! So far, I have Hobby Market this weekend, Semmex at the end of the month, my father's hobby club next weekend, it's Advance of Zeta April (so I need to find a kit to build for that), one discord is doing a kind of unofficial Wing kit group build, I personally have [community profile] spring_renewal to run, and (not mine) [community profile] vampiremedia is doing a drabblethon that I want to write a few things for. Whew! I'm sure there's more.

Eye exam in the morning. I can never quite get over the dread of being told my eyes have gotten worse even though I am going literally because I am very aware of my eyes being worse. *sigh*

I'm not dead!

Things have been... busy. My life is at least less on fire than last time I updated (though I did have a day that featured both [REDACTED FOR GROSS] and me managing to glue wood to my phone screen. So.)

But mostly I have been busy doing Minecraft Youtube Battleship! I had a lot of fun and may have made. Too many things. Like, an amount of things that may have a visible affect on my ao3 statistic 0.0.

I'm also preparing with my mother to go to a local music and arts event and busk Wuji. Despite my mother being a literal professional musician, it looks like, terrifyingly, I'm going to be the one playing the melody. I will walk the single plank bridge into the night sounding like we know what we are doing.

And after that I am planning to be Well Behaved and sort out the Pile of Original Writing that I'm underneath. Maybe even sort out getting a short story into a paying market.

Two movies

I watched two movies this weekend, one on Netflix and the other in the theater.

Finding 'Ohana was a fun kids' adventure movie set in Hawaii with a predominantly Hawaiian and/or Asian cast. It turned surprisingly touching in the climax and was a pretty good romp all around.

The short of things is that I got what is hopefully the year's worth of regular (and slightly irregular) maintenance done on the car for a fraction of what I'd anticipated, and the one thing that I'd been concerned with is fine. (And was yet again another less scrupulous shop just attempting to upsell unnecessary work.)

Talked to the owner for a bit after, mostly about our economic anxiety. He pointed out the absolute lack of traffic out front, which is indeed a main thoroughfare. I was able to pull right out and make a left, which I have never been able to do before... (I had also walked down to a diner to get breakfast, which was delicious, but I don't think I had to wait for a single car at any of the crosswalks.)

Hobby Market is next weekend so it's time to dig out the boxes again and hopefully find some fresh stuff for my table. I did start going through my shelves and gunpla stacks and hilariously, the first gunpla stack offered up two half-built kits (one of which I wasn't the one who started it) and a finished kit (again, not one I built so someone must've given it to me?)... I've finished the one and got it together minus a backpack I've utterly misplaced. The built one will get disassembled, cleaned, and probably become a paint experiment. Undecided on the last. I suppose I can at least finish it; it shouldn't be a difficult kit. (ETA: the bits that were already built were in pretty bad shape, so they're also getting bathed and cleaned and I'll see what I can do)

Superhero with one of those trick guns that loads different kinds of bullets. They’re a little slow to enter a fight, because they always keep the gun unloaded until they know what they want to fire. They don’t want to, say, accidentally use a net bullet on a winged villain high above the ground.

Or several corpuses? (Corpora?)

I’m just getting tired of people claiming that “nobody” says things that I’m certain I’ve recently heard on contemporary lowbrow media. But I just can’t prove it! And I can’t make them prove it either!

Even fansites with searchable scripts would be something.

In January, I forgot to open a letter from my insurance provider. It said they were raising the price of my insurance. I paid the old amount, so the next letter said I was cut off.

I spent a month calling my insurance and trying to get back on. They said they couldn’t get me back on unless my former employer agreed (I’m unemployed), and said former employer never returned their calls.

Way too close to the due date for my bi-monthly immunosuppressant, I gave up and tried to get on Medi-Cal instead. I seriously considered just paying out of pocket, but my old immunosuppressant cost $20K a dose, and the person I talked to at the clinic said the new immunosuppressant would cost “about the same.”

Actually, the new immunosuppressant costs less than $1K a dose. I have savings. I could have paid that. But today I got Medi-Cal, six days past the immunosuppressant due date and about thirteen days past when I started feeling like shit, and then I found out the clinic stopped accepting Medi-Cal. Also, they won’t let a patient pay out of pocket if they have insurance, even insurance they don’t take.

I hung up and tried swearing at the top of my lungs. I don’t feel any better.

Next up: I try to get a referral from my doctor for another infusion clinic that takes Medi-Cal.
